Star Panels for Christmas, Epiphany, or Light Theme

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light. On those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned. Is 9:2

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5

The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. John 1:9

Shine like stars in the universe as you hold forth the Word of life. Phil. 2:15,16

About twenty members of Bethany Lutheran Church used scissors to cut freeform shapes in 130 light yellow four-pointed stars. These were 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" cardstock by Wausau Exact Bristol, medium, semi-smooth finish.

The two star panels in the photos are 40 inches wide and 120 inches long. They were hung behind the altar on banner poles, slightly in front of permanent wall art, featuring the Last Supper. The undulating surface of the permanent woodcarving creates rich shadows and texture, which appear between the paper stars, in the 'negative' octagonal shapes, and effectively merge two works of art into one. The figure of Christ, above the star panels, is a meaningful, visual highlight in this chancel installation.
