32” x 63”
An important festival day in the Protestant church calendar, Reformation Day celebrates the Biblical rediscovery by Martin Luther that we are ‘Saved by God’s Grace, through Faith’ in Jesus Christ, who died for our sins, and was resurrected, triumphant over death. The frontal is a rectangle of deep red flannel, with an overlay of red flannel text on red coarse tulle. The yellow-red side vertical borders emphasize the presence of the Holy Spirit with God’s people on their journey of faith.
The red text is intended to convey the ‘Saved by Grace’ theme, though it is stated in a fuller context, (acknowledging God’s physical ‘altar’ and ‘sanctuary’ worship space). The actual frontal words are adapted from the hymn, For Many Years, O God of Grace, by William Czmanske, in The Lutheran Hymnal, # 325:
God of Grace, this has been
Your dwelling place.
Christ alone
is our Cornerstone
and one Foundation.
