Lent - Good Friday Chancel Installation
During the last few weeks of Lent, Members of Bethany Lutheran Church brought a favorite wall cross from their homes, to become part of a chancel installation and 'Meditation Wall" for Holy Week. Two artists, Janet Hoech and Karen Godecke, arranged over ninety crosses onto eight 2' x 8' cloth covered foam insulation boards, which were hinged to form four freestanding screens. The cross-screens were placed behind the completely black-draped Good Friday altar. Seven pillar candles were extinguished as the service progressed into total darkness.
The cross-screens were moved to a living room display area, and on Easter Sunday, the individual crosses were "released" back to members as part of the "He is Risen' alleluia declaration.
