Harwood Place - The 23rd Psalm

35" x 56"
Harwood Place, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin

This commissioned art is in the main entrance/lobby of Harwood Place, a Lutheran-affiliated senior living complex in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

The work is meant to convey a setting of comfort and reassurance; it is a subtle interpretation of the 23rd Psalm. Everyday objects in the scene can be enjoyed as natural details, or viewed as symbols of faith.

The figure, a senior, Christian resident, (under the arm of the 'cross' window divider), in her apartment (shelter), could be looking out the window at the green fields/pastures, quiet waters, or the butterfly (a resurrection reminder). The woman could also be about to eat the fruit and drink (daily bread), or she may be about to read the Bible. The table lamp is a common object, but it's proximity to the Bible could also be a reminder that God's Word... is a lamp unto one's feet/lights one's path.

The border text in the art is the Contemporary English translation of the 23rd Psalm. "Your kindness and love will always be with me...each day of my life", to be in God's protective arms forever, on earth, and one day, in heaven.
