May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. Galatians 6:14
At a congregational potluck and during Sunday School, 112 members of Bethany Lutheran Church aged 8 - 98 used Crayola oil pastels to design and add color to the surface of a light green Greek cross shape, made out of 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" Exact Bristol lightweight medium card stock.
The two Greek cross panels shown in the photos are each 34" x 120". They were hung behind the altar on long banner poles, slightly in front of a large permanent woodcarving of The Last Supper. Christ is deliberately visible above the cross panels, blessing the elements, thereby including a crucial part of the permanent art aesthetic, while accommodating new, site-specific chancel art.
